Both statements ‘say the same thing - but the first attempt includes 5 pronouns (you’ve already figured out ‘it’s me’ that’s explaining right.. so why do I keep telling you .. ‘I’ ?
This goes back to Cormac McCarthy & the idea of writing ‘dialogue - such that a reader ‘knows exactly which Character is speaking .. One can think of other examples - Tom & Huck Finn
Am pretty sure you’ll be grinning while reading the dialogue in Cuba Libre - Elmore Leonard. Conversation between the Cowboy & Livestock Agent.. Opening Chapter I believe
Apologies in Advance re pointing out ‘Excessive Pronoun Use’ - as part of Writing Mechanics. My ‘growing belief - ‘is that they are useful when’ initially pumping out our ideas into scenarios initially.. & do Note my intentional fail re ‘that they are useful when’ ! Why not reduce to ‘is they’re useful’ ? .. am trimming useage of ‘that’ drastically too !

I’ve a tendency to visit a well regarded writer’s initial Posts - see where the’ve come from etc.. or any About page or sample their Notes - so that’s something for later ! Have some experience re CBC btw but ‘THAT’ was way back near 1990 & be a cold day in hell they ever get a whiff of my Creative Properties again haha ! 🦎🏴☠️🖤
Thanks Thomas. I've never actually thought much about pronoun use other than to make it clear who is talking. I am a big fan of clarity. I will say I'm being deliberately less "precious" about my prose in this draft of this novel. I worried about it too much in my first novel, I think; now I'm more interested in getting the story out and keeping it moving along. I will mull over about what you're suggesting.
.. mebbe am just ‘curbing pronounce usage .. very ‘inconvenient wot ! & that has caught my attention - big time ! I have a ‘convenient writer’s habit ? I just plug in ‘he or ‘she or ‘they ? What would be an ‘alternative - less convenient ‘way of telling ? “painting in words eh .. 🦎🏴☠️🧨
I am absolutely open to constructive criticism. It's partially why I'm posting it, and I overtly ask for such criticism. So, thanks. I wonder if you could be more specific though. What bothers you exactly? Also, assuming I agree and make the changes, will you then keep your promise and "gladly return to the read?" For another 40 seconds, at least? :-)

i stopped reading - 40 secs in - immediate thought - ‘needs constructive ‘word editing..
Will gladly return to the read - but consider accepting that someone credible - to you !
